Preservation Trades Network Update in Response to COVID-19

PTN Board members and the local planners for IPTW 2020 have had several discussions about the feasibility of holding this year’s event in Louisville, Kentucky that was scheduled for August 27-29. After much discussion we decided to postpone the event as we didn’t want to put the health of any attendees in jeopardy. While the date is several months away and this may or may not be under control we felt like the effect on the economy is something we can’t predict and it may take people quite a while to recover. Lots of our members are small business owners and we are already hearing from them that that building closures are affecting their projects and they are trying to reorganize projects to see them through.

We will shortly be announcing the new board members and we are hoping to take this opportunity to work on other aspects of PTN that often get put on the back burner when we get caught up planning for large events. We have had ongoing discussion about the website and the issues with management of it. Beside that there is also a delay in content and getting news to our members. The PTN newsletter has not been published in several months and how can we get that available again to our members? Long range planning also needs to happen for the organization. How can we expand our activities to reach more people? What would best serve our members and the public? How can we grow the organization? Is the site that controls the membership directory meeting our needs? It is costly and laborious to use. The board want to represent traditional trades and the people who love them to the best of our abilities. Hopefully with the new board members and this additional free time we can use this to the advantage of the organization.
