The Preservation Trades Network is partnering with Historic Environments Scotland to hold the 23rd Annual International Preservation Trades Workshop in Stirling, Scotland on Sept 5-7, 2019. The event will be held at Scotland’s National Building Conservation Centre located in The Engine Shed.

The Engine Shed represents a unique and very fitting IPTW event location.  The Engine shed was built circa 1900 and was first used as a goods transportation hub until the 1960s. In the mid 2010’s it was restored and expanded to serve as Scotland’s center for building and conservation professionals.  It is also open to the general public. For more information on the Engine Shed’s interesting history and preservation minded adaptive reuse please visit https://www.engineshed.scot/about-us/the-engine-shed/#overview

The Dinner & Auction will be in the Great Hall Stirling Castle on Saturday for members. PTN will be holding both a silent and live auction during the Ceilidh with proceeds going to our scholarship funds. Auction items are often donated by attendees, demonstrators, or longtime PTN members.

PTN has built a strong relationship with HES over the last five years.  Both organizations share similar values and mission in the perserverance of the traditional building trades.  HES has sent demonstrators to IPTW’s in the USA since in 2014 such as Chuck Jones, a master stone carver and HES Technical Conservation Skills Program Manager.  HES also hosted one of PTN’s first annual Chris P. Robinson International Preservation Trades Exchange Scholarship recipients in 2018, and will host one of PTN’s 2019 awardees.

PTN is very excited to reaffirm our dedication to being an international organization by traveling across the Atlantic to Scotland. Both organizations are excited to highlight their talented craftspeople who bring knowledge of their trades. For any specific questions or for more information please contact Sarah Jackson by email  at sjackson@ptn.org or Ian Walker at ian.walker@hes.scot. See you in Stirling!

The International Preservation Trades Workshop (IPTW) is a unique annual gathering that brings together the foremost practitioners of the traditional trades in a single event, dedicated to sharing the skills and knowledge of all the trades employed in the conservation of the built environment. Since 1997, carpenters, masons, metal workers, painters, plasterers, timber framers, roofers and practitioners of other traditional trades from more than a dozen countries have come together to share their knowledge and demonstrate their skills. Every IPTW draws a diverse audience of tradespeople, architects, preservationists, students and home owners, and offers unique learning opportunities for people of all ages and skill levels.
