The Preservation Trades Network Presents the 22nd Annual
International Preservation Trades Workshop
October 26-28, 2018
Historic Preservation Training Center
Frederick, Maryland

Join us once again as we return to Frederick and the National Park Service’s Historic Preservation Training Center for the 22nd International Preservation Trades Workshop.  It is shaping up to be a great workshop, with the usual variety of demonstrators.  As usual there will be the main dinner and auction to cap off the event.  We have shortened the Workshop to two days this year, to allow for a youth day on Thursday and a community day on Sunday.  The Misia Leonard Scholarship is available for Students wishing to attend, so apply early!  We are planning several workshops ahead of the main event, including gravestone preservation, masonry preservation and window restoration.  We are honored that HPTC has once again opened their doors to us, and brought us home, as it were.  This year honor the legacy of Chris Robinson, who encouraged us all to “Go Big or Go Home”.

Special Announcements!

Do you want bragging rights to be “The Best Putty Glazer in America”?

If you do, please join us for Glaz-A-Palooza 2018 at the International Preservation Trades Workshop (IPTW) in Frederick, MD on October 27, 2018. This fun event is open to anyone attending the workshop who wants to claim bragging rights to be “The Best Putty Glazer in America”. All you have to do is stop by the WPA table and be one of the first 15 people to sign up and claim a sash. WPA will provide 15 identical sashes, Sarco putty, glass, glazing points and whiting. Putty knives can be your own or you can use the ones provided. This fun competition will begin after lunch in the lunch tent on Saturday, October 27, 2018. Sashes will be judged on quality and craftsmanship, style, and speed. The best sash wins! Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place as determined by our panel of judges from PTN, Downtown Frederick Partnership, and the National Park Service. Broken glass will disqualify you, so put on your best glazing face and join us on October 27, 2018.

See you in Frederick!

The International Preservation Trades Workshop (IPTW) is the only annual gathering of its kind in North America that brings together the foremost practitioners of the traditional trades in a single event, dedicated to sharing the skills and knowledge of all the trades employed in the conservation of the built environment. Since 1997, carpenters, masons, metal workers, painters, plasterers, timber framers, roofers and practitioners of other traditional trades from more than a dozen countries have come together to share their knowledge and demonstrate their skills. Every IPTW draws a diverse audience of tradespeople, architects, preservationists, students and home owners, and offers unique learning opportunities for people of all ages and skills levels.
