An Heritage Carpentry and Joinery Lecturer, John set up MTC Artisans otherwise known as McRitchie Traditional Carpentry in 2010 to help the construction industry cope with the demand for sympathetic traditional building repair work, discreet traditional building upgrades and increase the variety of existing traditional skills training programs in Scotland.  He has a great passion and appreciation for traditional craftsmanship and works closely with governing bodies to revive some of the traditional wood trades that are in great danger of being lost.  He established a Sash and Case Window Restoration course, which is aimed at homeowners and contractors, at the Scottish Lime Centre Trust, which is based in Charlestown, Fife. He has also lectured in traditional building crafts for Savannah Tech USA and York University and taught HNC Construction Management for The University of the Highlands and Islands, Perth. John received his Master Craftsman certification from HRH Duke of Rothesay in 2010 and was awarded Fellowship status at The Institute of Carpenters, London in December 2012.

John attended the IPTW: 2019 – Stirling, Scotland.
